Secular Franciscan Order
The St. Bonaventure Secular Franciscan fraternity, after canonical approval in May 2006, began to hold its monthly meetings on the first Sunday of
each month at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Wilno.
This fraternity is part of the larger Eastern Canada Regional fraternity which extends from Prince Edward Island to Wilno, Ontario.
The Secular Franciscan Order (formerly known as Third Order) was founded by St. Francis and approved by Pope Honorius III in 1221. Secular Order
Franciscans make promises of commitment and are motivated and formed by the same spirit of St. Francis, to fulfill the ideals and responsibilities of their state of life
within the faith-community of the Church. In order to help carry out this calling, Secular Franciscans assemble at least once a month as a fraternity, to pray, and to reflect
on the Order’s Rule, its meaning and application in their daily lives. Secular Franciscans also carry out a variety of Apostolates in the community in which they live.
Members of the Church are invited to discern whether they have a vocation to be a Secular Franciscan (S.F.O.) Prospective
members are asked to join a two year formation program, at the end of which thay may make their commitment. Visitors who are discerning a vocation to the Secular Franciscan
Order or those simply who want to learn more about the Franciscan way are welcome to attend the monthly meeting.
